Some time ago bed bugs were a global public health pest, which declined in incidence during the middle of the 20th Century.  However, in recent times, bed bugs have had a dramatic resurrection and there are global indications of ever growing numbers of invasions.  Bed bugs are among the greatest travelers of the world and they are transported readily via clothing, luggage, furniture and bedding.  Below are some guidelines of how to get rid of bed bugs in clothes and elsewhere around the home:

•Follow an IPM of Integrated Pest Management Approach
This entails a number of techniques such as preventive measures, sanitation and chemicals which are applied to infested areas.
•Use Rubbing Alcohol to Spray Bed Bugs
Doing this will kill them on the spot and alcohol is safe on most fabric.  Make use of a dish brush and the rubbing alcohol to destroy the visible eggs.
•Launder Affected Clothing at a Minimum of 120 Degrees Fahrenheit
This is a great way of destroying the bed bugs.  For bug-ridden clothing items that cannot be machine washed, heating is a great method of ridding them of the bugs.  You can wrap clothing with delicate fabric in plastic and place them in a very sunny location for a minimum a three days.  In addition, bed bugs will succumb to temperatures that are below freezing; however, you have to maintain the chilling period for a minimum of two weeks.
•Kill Bed bugs and Their Eggs with Steam
The local hardware store is a good place to get a simple steam-generating device or you could convert an electric kettle into a killer steam machine by connecting a flexible tube.  By thoroughly spraying all the seams and corners of clothing storage areas as well as other infested areas, you will be able to destroy all the bed bugs and their eggs.
•Empty Dressers and Nightstands
Thoroughly scrutinize these and other pieces of furniture inside and out; turn them over to examine under the woodwork.  The bugs will often hide in recesses, corners and cracks.
•Vacuum Your Home
Doing this will get rid of eggs and bugs from mattresses, walls, carpet and other surfaces.
Depending on the severity of the bug bed infestation, the guidelines above might not get rid of the little critters.  If that happens, then it might be time for you to think about consulting with a reputable and professional exterminator.  Qualified exterminators are familiar with where to search for bed bugs and they have lots of effective tools at their disposal.

Getting Rid Of Bed Bugs From your Sensitive Skin

How To Get Rid Of Bed Bugs On Your Skin

Bed bugs are nocturnal parasites that feed exclusively on blood. As such, they often nest and hide in places where they have access to their prey. Unfortunately, these insects are non-discriminatory and will bite a warm-blooded prey, whether it is animal or human. If there are bed bugs in your home, it is likely that they will find a way to get to you. Learn how to get rid of bed bugs on your skin and avoid the problems associated with their bites.

What to Expect About Bed Bugs
The first thing you need to know about bed bugs is that while they may bite, they are not burrowing insects, so there is no danger that they will create holes in the skin and burrow under in order to nest. Once they have fed on their host, they will crawl away to their nest or hiding place. When a bed bug bites, most people do not even feel it because the bugs' saliva has numbing properties. By the time they notice the telltale red marks, the insect is already long gone.
Here are tips on how to get rid of bed bugs on your skin:
In the unlikely event that you do find a bed bug still attached to your skin during feeding, swat it off right away. These insects only bite but do not bury any part of their body into the skin, unlike ticks. You could also use a tissue or a cotton ball dipped in alcohol to wipe the bug away. Be aware that if it has already bitten you, the alcohol will sting the area. It will, however, disinfect the location of the bite. Just make sure to wash the area with soap and water right away. Apply an anti-itch cream or lotion and do not scratch the area to avoid an infection.
Will applying a repellent work?
Bed bugs are known to sit on surfaces that have been treated with chemical repellents, so it is likely that applying a topical anti-bug lotion will not help. Besides, the lotion, cream or spray applied onto the skin before bedtime might already lose its potency by the time bed bugs begin feeding at around 3 to 5 a.m.
If you have just been to a place with a known bed bug infestation, make sure to treat your clothes, luggage and shoes first before storing them in your house. Bed bugs tend to hitch a ride on their hosts in order to travel from one place to the next. If bed bugs are found on your skin, take a shower to wash them off. It is also a good idea to start cleaning your room or home if you suspect an infestation. Bed bugs are difficult – but not impossible – to eliminate. Often, a combination of natural and chemical approaches is enough to do the trick.

If you wake up in the middle of the night itching and scratching…if you notice bright red spots on your skin that are frequently irritated and bleeding…if you can see small black specks on your mattress with the naked eye…then you may have bed bugs. While there is a tendency to panic when you first see these critters turn up in your home, you should not let it get the best of you. There are many reasons why a person may be experiencing bed bugs. Lack of cleanliness is a big factor. If you are "not much of a housekeeper," then it's time to revise the way you live. If you keep good house, but still fall victim, then it could simply be a matter of living in a bad location. Regardless, you can get rid of these creatures once and for all.

Bed Bugs Attack!

This Emmy winning documentary explores how and why the bedbug is making such a huge come back. And what's next in the war against these blood suckers!

Any time you find yourself asking the question, "How do I get rid of bed bugs," you're going to get a lot of different answers. Some say you need to set off a bomb, while others say call an exterminator. Some say get your stuff out of the house immediately, while others say bagging works effectively. All of this can be bad advice. For starters, not all exterminators know how to deal with these bugs effectively. Secondly, bombing can serve to intensify the problem as it uses the wrong types of chemicals and does nothing to destroy the eggs. Bagging also doesn't get rid of the problem; it simply preserves it.
Using granules, keeping a clean home, learning as much as you can about bed bug fighting chemicals, and only hiring an exterminator, who makes these creatures his specialty, will allow you the relief that you seek. It can be a very hard problem to get rid of, but knowing what to do and following through can open the doors to relief.
And here a few article on bed bugs taken straight from the news… It shows how prevelant they are and that they dont seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. Its like watching a soap opera with these bed bugs… its always the same story!

A Few Tips On How To Get Rid Of A Bed Bugs Problem

Bed bugs sneak up on you while you are sleeping.

Image via Flickr

They hide in mattresses and drink your blood during the night. When you wake up the next morning, you notice that there are itchy red spots all over your skin. You can probably even see them roaming about. They hide in your furniture, your electrical sockets, and your mattress, and they feed at night. They can make the lives of you and your family miserable, and if you don't kill them all, then they can come back with a vengeance before you know what hits you.

If you want to know how to get rid of bed bugs, then prepare. It can be a very challenging ordeal if you don't know what you are doing. For starters, they don't go away overnight. To get rid of the bed bugs for good, you may have to hire an exterminator. If you don't wish to do this, then you will need to educate yourself on the proper use of chemicals. It is not enough to kill the existing bugs, and it is not enough to keep a clean house. If you do, in fact, have an outbreak of these little critters, you will need to exterminate the eggs as well as the existing horde.
Of course, cleanliness is a good deterrent for prevention. But don't take it as a knock on yourself if you do have bed bugs, because they are highly infectious and can be spread from one residence to another with relative ease. Those living in apartment complexes especially are susceptible to outbreaks through no fault of their own. The most important thing that you can do to not fall victim is educate yourself extensively about these creatures and what treatments work the best. If you must hire an exterminator, make sure the professional deals with them as a specialty.
